My name is Mateusz Surma. I was born on September 3, 1995 in Rydułtowy in the region of Silesia in Poland. My dad taught me to play go when I was six and a half.
At various points from 2009-2013, I trained Go in South Korea at schools: King’s Baduk Dojang, Yang Jae-Ho Baduk Dojang, and Choong-Am Baduk Dojang. Altogether, I spent 2 years and 5 months there.
I became a professional go player in 2015 (after winning a “pro” qualification tournament in Pisa, Italy).
I trained Go in China at Ge Yuhong Weiqi Daochang for 8 months through years 2015–2016.
My best achievements:
• 1st place in the European Professional Championship (2023)
• 1st place in the European Grand Prix Finale (2020)
• 1st place in the European Grand Prix (2019)
• 1st place in the European Grand Slam (2019)
• 1st place in the Samsung Cup preliminaries - World Division Baduk Masters (2017)

Amazing Tutor!
During lockdown, we thought it would be fun to learn Go and booked Mateusz to teach us. I was a little bit worried that such a top flight player would mind teaching the basics but he was so kind and generous with his knowledge. He is very personable and made the lesson fun and interesting. We are definitely keeping up the tutoring.

Estoy dando clases individuales de Go en español con Mateusz Zurma, son clases de hora u hora y media. Realizamos revisiones de mis partidas en las cuales me explica los fallos más generales y algunos más concretos que él cree importantes. Mateusz es muy profesional, atento y simpático como profesor, además de que es claro en sus explicaciones, se adapta a tu nivel de comprensión del juego de tal forma que comprenderás todo.
Con la ayuda de sus clases y jugando para poner en práctica lo aprendido, avanzaras seguro.
Así que todo aquel que este dudando en tomar clases, te recomiendo Polgote como una gran opción y más en concreto con el profesor Mateusz Zurma.

Excellent go lessons
I took some go lessons with Mateusz 2p, and found him to be an excellent teacher. When reviewing my games he was always well prepared and had many useful suggestions that were perfect for my level (2d). The lessons were quite effective, I gained roughly 1 stone in just a few months while taking lessons with Mateusz, which is quite good at my level.
I also liked that Mateusz records the lessons and sends the recording afterwards so you can rewatch it later. Highly recommended.
